..“his contributions will not be forgotten!’’
A Legacy Recognized by a New Generation
I was a graduate student of Arthur Palmer. During my time in graduate school, I was fortunate enough to have collaborated on a paper with Mark Rance, titled "Enhanced spectral density mapping through combined multiple-field deuterium 13CH2D methyl spin relaxation NMR spectroscopy", published in early 2018. I was extremely fortunate to have been able to collaborate with Mark early on in my graduate career, and I will forever be in debt to him for his contributions to the book “Protein NMR Spectroscopy: Principles and Practice”. It continues to be the defining guidebook for biomolecular NMR today, and I have learned so much from its teachings.
Unfortunately, I was unable to get to know Mark more personally; however, based on testimonials written about him by his colleagues, mentors, and mentees, I can see that he was a kind and caring person who has dedicated his life to science and uplifting the next generation of scientists. I know that his legacy will continue to live on with this new generation-- his contributions will not be forgotten!
With much respect,
