Mark was a fantastic mentor and genuinely kind person. I will always be grateful for the encouragement he showed me when I was an undergrad working in Peter’s lab and for our collaboration as a graduate student. He was so generous with his time and knowledge, he never made you feel inferior although given his brilliance as a scientist he certainly could have. It was an honor to be working with him. I have many happy memories of sitting at the spectrometer console as well as at the bar at the Torrey Pines Inn with him and our Scripps colleagues. Thank you Mark. Rest In Peace.
